The journey of ELSNER began in 1990, born from serendipity, curiosity, and an unwavering desire to create the exceptional—pieces unseen in the market of the time. While still a student, the founder wandered through the historic streets of Vienna and was captivated by a tie displayed in the window of an exclusive boutique. It was a rare treasure, virtually unattainable for the average customer in early 1990s Poland, its price equivalent to several months’ wages.
Returning home, he discovered a fabric with a similar pattern. Though intended for dresses, he personally crafted the first tie from it. Its quality was imperfect, yet its bold, colorful design immediately stood apart from anything available locally. In an era of empty shelves and scarce options, this tie was revolutionary.
The response was immediate and overwhelming. Curiosity turned into requests, and within two weeks, the volume of orders demanded long evenings spent at the sewing machine. The pivotal moment came when a visit to a prestigious men’s boutique on the main street of a university town resulted in the first formal order, which required issuing an invoice. Two weeks after his first public appearance wearing his own tie, the company was officially established.
Growth was rapid. Within a month, the first seamstress joined the team, and six months later, 25 individuals were part of the fledgling atelier. Quality evolved steadily, yet the passion for designing and crafting collections became the cornerstone of the brand. All the while, the founder completed his studies, fully aware that his destiny lay in craftsmanship and design, rather than in the profession he had formally trained for.
A defining moment arrived with the introduction of professional tie fabrics from Germany and the debut of the collection at Poland’s premier fashion fairs. The reception far exceeded both expectations and financial capacity, and the challenge became funding the swiftly arriving orders.
The brand’s next evolution was the introduction of logoed ties for front-office uniforms, which led to collaborations with over fifty institutions and companies across Poland and beyond.
As the new millennium unfolded, the expansion of shopping centers and major men’s fashion chains in Central Europe offered new opportunities. ELSNER partnered with key players in the segment, supplying over 300 boutiques across Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany with a team of around fifty. The brand adorned the necks of politicians and public figures alike. Quality remained paramount, with the finest Italian and German silks carefully selected. Media presence grew, and ELSNER’s reputation flourished.
Market shifts toward mass production in Asia necessitated restructuring—reducing the team and relocating production overseas. This period demanded intensive on-site work, process supervision, and stringent quality control. Financially, it proved successful, yet it conflicted with the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, experimentation, and the premium segment.
Throughout its history, ELSNER has been guided by one principle: the relentless pursuit of perfection and uncompromising quality. After several transformative years, the company began collaborating with a brand regarded as a global icon of the tie. This partnership redefined ELSNER’s operations, returning production to Poland and refocusing the atelier on bespoke projects for the world’s most discerning fashion houses, while gradually phasing out mass production abroad.
A long-cherished dream was the creation of hand-sewn shirts. Rather than pursuing global expansion under its own name, ELSNER established a workshop for one of the world’s most talented Bespoke Shirt Makers. The synergy of his design mastery and skill in shirt construction with ELSNER’s precision and craftsmanship gave rise to the Full Hand Bespoke Shirt - a piece recognized at a prestigious U.S. competition as the finest-crafted shirt in the world, achieving remarkable commercial success.
Today, ELSNER crafts for renowned global brands where quality is absolute and uncompromising. The company’s greatest asset remains its people—the hand fashion artisans whose expertise, precision, and sensitivity to craft form the foundation of every creation emerging from the ateliers of ELSNER.
